Enjoy the Estuary

However you wish to spend your spare time, whether you are a keen sailor, wildlife photographer, painter or just prefer a gentle stroll along the harbourside, the Dart river and its estuary can offer hours of enjoyment.

You can explore the river, its estuary and the surrounding area, part of the South Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, on foot, cycle, bus, steam, train, boat and canoe.

Please note that water skiing is not permitted anywhere in the river.

Recreational activities are only part of the estuary and river picture. Managing an estuary is a complex balancing act of negotiating different interests, stakeholders and resources to avoid conflicts.

The Dart estuary is managed by working in a co-operative way with the people who live, work and play in the area.

Be Smart - Protect the Dart

Don't turn a blind eye - if you see (or accidentally cause) a pollution incident report it straight away. The same applies even if you only suspect pollution e.g. dead fish, excessive foaming or water discolouration.
