Anchorages
The main area for anchorage is off Dartmouth east of the mainstream large-ship buoys, between them and the mooring trots off Kingswear.
There are other anchorages further up river, clear of the main channel that can be used as well.
To find out where you can anchor safely please contact a Dart Harbour River Officer as there are "turning" areas for large ships off Sandquay and Noss where anchoring is not permitted. On entering the river, call ‘DartNav’ on VHF Channel 11. If there is no reply to VHF, telephone the Harbour Office on 01803 832337. River staff are available in the summer months from 0730 to 2300 hrs.
Anchoring off Dittisham cannot be permitted due to proximity of buoys and the main channel being very narrow at this point, but vessels may anchor below the Anchor Stone.
Above Dittisham, anchoring may be allowed in certain areas, please consult a River Officer.
Always consult a British Admiralty chart before anchoring to avoid underwater obstructions.
