Waiting & Transfer List
Waiting lists are very long!
To apply for a mooring or a transfer berth you will need to join our waiting lists. Waiting lists exist for each type of mooring and each location and are very long. You may have to wait years for a mooring or a berth.
‘Down River’ means the area that lies below an imaginary line drawn south west to north east, from the Higher Ferry to Higher Noss Creek. ‘Up River’ means the area above that imaginary line.
Swinging Moorings
The majority of swinging moorings are up river at Dittisham, Galmpton and Stoke Gabriel. There are some swinging moorings down river in the area known as the Bight (in-between Warfleet Creek and the Lower Ferry) - but they are in great demand and the wait for one of these can be about ten years!
The maximum LOA for up river moorings, is 9.8 metres (32 feet) and anything above that size is restricted to applying for a berth down river.
Trot Berths
There are a few fore and aft trot berths at Totnes. The majority of fore and aft trot moorings are down river from the Higher Ferry to Higher Noss Creek) in Kingswear or Dartmouth.
Yacht Pontoons
All the yacht pontoon berths are down river.
Dinghy Pontoons and Running Moorings
Dart Harbour has dinghy pontoon berths for hire at Dartmouth, Kingswear, Dittisham and Stoke Gabriel and again you can anticipate a long wait for one of these facilities. You may also apply for a running mooring for a dinghy or tender, and these berths are situated at most locations on the Dart.
Which waiting list is moving the quickest?
The quickest moving list at the moment is for the Kingswear Trots – which can be a wait of anything in-between two to four years. For pontoons, you could wait nearly five or six years, or even longer. For a mooring up river, the waiting time is currently around five or six years.
All these times are very approximate because it depends on how many of our customers give up their moorings each year and also how many give up with an equivalent size berth to the one that you require - sometimes you can be lucky and get one a lot quicker.
Ok, I still want to wait, what should I do?
To join the waiting lists you need to fill in the appropriate form for the type of mooring you require and the location of your choice. You can download the application forms from the relevant web pages on this website. Please send your completed form by post, together with the deposit and registration fee, to the Harbour Office. We do not currently have the facility to collect fees/charges online.
Registration and deposits
A £150.00 refundable deposit is payable, as is a £15.00 registration fee. You may join as many or as few lists as you like. Each one requires a separate £15.00 registration fee, but only one deposit.
To apply for a dinghy berth or running mooring costs £10.00 for each registration fee and one refundable deposit of £50.00.
When you are allocated a mooring your deposit is refunded by cheque, or if you have not been allocated your preferred mooring or location we will retain your deposit and place you on the transfer list until such time as you are allocated your ideal choice.

The deposit will be retained until you are offered a berth or you advise us that you no longer wish to remain on the list. The registration fees are not returnable.
