Young Champion Award
Welcome
A new award scheme for young people entitled the "Dart Harbour Young Champion Awards". Our aim is to encourage young people to develop an interest in the River Dart and to reward an outstanding contribution to life on or beside the river.
Closing Date for nominations 30th June 2010.
The criteria for entry has been kept as broad as possible so we can consider a wide range of different projects including leisure, environmental, artistic, vocational and scientific. The judging will be based on the quality of information received from the entrant and their nominee on the online nomination form. A judging panel will select the final three entrants in each category from the information received and the finalists will be invited to make a short verbal presentation to the panel.
There are three categories, decided by age:
- Age group 1 will be for a group of primary aged school children. The size of the group should be from 3 to 12 pupils and it is expected that the project will be organised by their teacher or leader.
- Age group 2 will be aimed at children up to Year 11. For young people who can demonstrate a growing interest in the River Dart and who produce an individual project inspired by their interest and activity on the river. It is expected that their project will be supported or supervised by a teacher or club leader.
- Age group 3 will be aimed at 16-21 year olds. They will be expected to demonstrate a project of outstanding ability either in an academic or vocational area of work and inspired by their interest and involvement in the river. It is expected that they will be highly self motivated.
There will be prizes for each age group. These will be:
Age group 1 - ( 8 – 11 yrs )
- Cash award £250 to school and day trip on the River Dart for the winning group.
- Certificates for winning group.

Age group 2 - ( 12 – 16 yrs )
- 12 – 16 yrs Individual prize - £100 scholarship and Club or School receive £200 towards an approved club or school activity. One day leisure activity on the River Dart with Canoe Adventures (www.canoeadventures.co.uk) for the winner, a friend and an accompanying adult.
- Certificates for 1st, 2nd and 3rd places
- Closing date for applications: 30th June 2010
Age group 3 - ( 16 – 21 yrs )
- 16 - 21 yrs. Individual scholarship of £500.
- 3 day programme of work experience with Dart Harbour.
- Certificates for 1st, 2nd and 3rd places.
