Diptford Primary School

Age Group 1

Did their own research on the River Dart which inspired them to produce computer presentations,
compose and perform music accompanied by dances choreographed by pupils and made a wicker sculpture representing the river

Age Group 2

Samantha submitted a piece of travel writing based around a trip down the river.
The judges were impressed by her clear use of technical terms whilst also using her imagination to paint a vivid picture of the river and its surrounding environment.

Henry Bomby

Age Group 3

Henry sailed around Britain single-handed
and sailed across the Atlantic
Becoming a professional sailor, taking part in competitions.
The judges were inspired by his returning to the river Dart, sailing on it, and being the best kind of role model for young people of the area.

Totnes St Johns C of E Primary School

Age Group 1

Totnes St John’s C of E Primary School have won the Dart Harbour Young Champion Award in the 8 – 11 yr age category. The children from year 6 have composed and recorded two songs about the river Dart and created a fantastic collage on the “Rubbish in the Bin, not in the Drink” theme.


Josh Langford

Age Group 3

Josh Langford has won the Dart Harbour Young Champion Award in the 16 – 21 year age category. He was awarded the prize for constructing an English oak gun carriage for a cannon which was recovered from the Dart by an underwater archeology team and donated to the Kingswear Historians. The historians then had the problem of deciding how to display it until Josh stepped in with his project to build the gun carriage.
