Tristan was appointed to the Board from January 2018.
Tristan grew up sailing from the age of 6 weeks old having been lowered down the quay wall in Falmouth. Sailing with his two brothers near St Just-in-Roseland fostered an enduring love of the sea, the southwest and all things maritime. Tristan’s family range from officers on the White Star Line, Cape Horner’s, Naval Architects, Sailors and Shipwrights.
Tristan is a Barrister of 15 years’ experience and practices Marine Law at Bartons Solicitors in Plymouth. With an MSc in Maritime Safety completed at the International Maritime Organization in London, Tristan’s recent work ranges from representing the skipper in the Coroner’s inquest for the Clipper fatality, appearances in the Admiralty Court in London, resolving marine insurance disputes and advising on matters of contract and Health and Safety within the marine working environment.
Tristan is a sailor holding RYA Yachtmaster qualification, Powerboat 1 and 2 and the International Certificate of Competence. Through the personal refit of many yachts, Tristan has an excellent practical understanding of most aspects of marine engineering. Tristan has two boys and a young daughter who are all keen (or soon to be keen) sailors.
