Regatta Paddleboard Race

Dart Harbour are sponsoring the paddleboard ‘race’ on Saturday 29th August

This is a fun event, suitable for all to enter, regardless of experience or lack of it!  You don’t even need a paddle board, as boards are available to rent!  The entry fee if you have your own board is just £5

The rules:

  • The safety of all entrants is the number one priority.  Entrants must not take any action that puts themselves or others in danger, and must act in a sportsmanlike fashion throughout the race.
  • This event is a fun freestyle event.  Entrants may stand, kneel, sit or lay whilst paddling during the race.  Any entrants who expect to actually race should let the organisers know, to ensure they start in the first wave and are clear of slower boarders.
  • All entrants must complete the registration form, either in advance or on the day
  • There is a minimum age of 12 for solo paddleboarders.  Under 12s may ride on the board of a responsible adult over 18. Entrants under 18 must have permission from a parent or guardian.
  • All entrants must wear a buoyancy aid (or lifejacket)
  • All entrants must use a leash.  We recommend a waist leash with quick release.
  • All entrants must wear their race number clearly visible.
  • Only standard inflatable paddleboards in good condition with a length up to 4.3m (14.1ft) and a width up to 1m (3.2ft) may be used.  Damaged, modified, asymmetric or dynamic boards, foils, movable rudders may not be used.
  • No entrant may be under the influence of alcohol or illegal drugs.
  • Gentle collisions are expected, but heavy collisions may result in disqualification.
  • If any entrant needs assistance, they should raise their hand and stop paddling.  If you fall in, try to get back on your board, or hold onto your board and a safety boat will assist you as soon as possible.

On the day

Registration opens from 12:30 on North Embankment opposite Coronation Park, adjacent to Low Water Landing Pontoon.  Those who have pre-registered on the website need only check in and collect their race number.

Paddle boards can be launched from Low Water Landing Pontoon.  Once launched, boards should congregate inshore of the DPC pontoon (ferryboat overnight moorings).  The start line is offshore of the DPC pontoon, near the fuel barge.

All entrants must be facing upstream (and have the bow of the board facing upstream) at the start of the race.  When the start is sounded, all boards must turn 180 degrees to start the race.

All entrants must pass the down river mark off Dartmouth Yacht Club on their right hand side, and then head back upstream to the finish line off South Embankment.

The race is a total of 600m in length.

Once the race is over, all entrants should follow the inner channel route (inside Town Jetty, trot moorings and DPC pontoon to return to the exit area.  An alternative exit is available at yacht club pontoon for those who are unable to return to the start.

If large numbers of entrants take part, the race may be split into multiple categories.
