Commercial Moorings

Dart Harbour is committed to support marine businesses, and as such we prioritise genuine businesses on certain moorings. Applicants for these waiting lists must have a genuine, fully operational business which is their main source of income or which has employee(s). The vessel must be primarily used for the business, with appropriate insurance and coding, and we may ask to see proof that the business is active and viable, e.g. website, business plan etc. If your business does not meet these requirements then you may loose your place on the waiting list.

Dartmouth and Kingswear Mooring Options

  • Mooring Options We have a wide range of moorings in Dartmouth and Kingswear, as shown on the below photo. Please note, some of these options may not show if your vessels length is over the maximum allowed.
  • Accessing your mooring We have some walkashore berths, but most berths are accessed using our cheap and efficient yacht taxi, which runs daily all year.  We do have dinghy rack and afloat moorings for tenders in Dartmouth and Kingswear, but there is a waiting list for these.
  • Length of waiting lists Our pontoon moorings all have a long waiting list of 10 years plus.  The Kingswear trots have a much faster waiting list, normally around 2 years.  Many people choose to join both a short waiting list to get a berth quickly, and a longer list to secure their ultimate berth in the future.

Kingswear Trots. Max 19m LOA
Note that some of the Kingswear trots are double-trots, which take two similar boats in the summer (roughly 1 year in two you will need to move your boat for the winter to another trot berth assigned by Dart Harbour). If you are not happy with a double trot then the waiting list may be longer *
Dartmouth Trots. Max 10m LOA. Priority given to commercial and classic vessels
Bight / Warfleet swinging moorings. Max 12m LOA. Note these moorings are exposed to Southerly storms, and are two-location moorings, so you will need to move your boat each winter to another swinging or trot berth assigned by Dart Harbour
Kingswear Island Pontoons. Max 20m LOA. Deep water island pontoon with water and electricity. Note that there is a waiting list of more than 10 years for these berths
Dartmouth DA / DB Pontoon. Max 8m LOA - walk ashore pontoon berths. Note there is a waiting list of more than 10 years for these berths
Dartmouth Low Water Landing Pontoon. Max 5.5m LOA, Max 2.5m beam. Walk ashore drying pontoon berths. Note there is a waiting list of more than 10 years for these berths
Kingswear Dinghy Rack Afloat Pontoon. Max 5.5m LOA, Max 2.5m beam. Walk ashore shallow pontoon berths. Note there is a waiting list of more than 10 years for these berths
Warfleet Creek Running Mooring. Max 4.3m LOA, Max 2m beam. Drying seasonal running mooring - you will need to remove the boat in the winter.
Bayards Cove Running Mooring. Max 4.3m LOA, Max 2m beam. Shallow seasonal running mooring - you will need to remove the boat in the winter.

Noss Mooring Options

  • Mooring Options We have trot moorings available on the west side of the river in the Noss area
  • Accessing your mooring These moorings are accessed using our cheap and efficient yacht taxi, which runs daily all year from Dartmouth or Kingswear.  We do have dinghy rack and afloat moorings for tenders in Dartmouth and Kingswear, but there is a waiting list for these.  
  • Length of waiting lists Trot moorings have a waiting list of a few years, depending on the size of your boat.
Noss Trots. Max 14m LOA. West side of channel, opposite Noss Marina
Note that as well as trot moorings, we also have a very limited number of swinging moorings in the Noss area. The waiting list for swinging moorings is considerably longer than the list for trot moorings. *

Note that we are reducing the number of moorings in the Maypool / Parsons mud area as part of our plans to provide more unspoiled areas on the river, so the waiting list for these moorings is now closed.

Sorry, there are no moorings in Noss for your size of vessel. We have larger berths available in Kingswear.

Dittisham, Greenway and Galmpton Mooring Options

  • Mooring Options We have a wide range of moorings in Dittisham, Greenway & Galmpton, as shown on the below photo. Please note, some of these options may not show if your vessels length is over the maximum allowed.
  • Accessing your mooring: We have some tender moorings available, and others are available at Greenway Quay, Dolphin Boatyard, Dittisham Sailing Club or Blackness Marine.  Greenway Ferry operate a yacht taxi to berths in the Dittisham and Greenway area.
  • Length of waiting lists: Dittisham Pontoon moorings have a long waiting list of 10 years plus.  Dittisham deep water swinging moorings also have a long wait, typically 5 years.  Shallow Dittisham moorings and Galmpton moorings have a much shorter wait.  Many people choose to join both a short waiting list to get a berth quickly, and a longer list to secure their ultimate berth in the future.

Stoke Gabriel, Cornworthy and Blackness Mooring Options

  • Mooring Options We have a number of options available for mooring in Stoke Gabriel and Cornworthy as shown on the below photo. Please note, some of these options may not show if your vessels length is over the maximum allowed.  Note that we are reducing the number of moorings in Duncannon, so the waiting list for these moorings is currently closed, unless you live in Duncannon itself.
  • Accessing your mooring: We have some tender moorings available in Stoke Gabriel, though they have a very long waiting list.  Other tender moorings are available from Blackness Marine or Stoke Gabriel Boating Association.
  • Length of waiting lists: Stoke Gabriel Pontoon moorings have a long waiting list of 10 years plus.  Swinging moorings have a short waiting list, and we occasionally have a few available on immediate  notice.

Bow Creek Moorings

  • Mooring Options We have a few mud trot moorings available off the Maltsters Arms in Tuckenhay.
  • Accessing your mooring: There are no tender berths available, but you can launch your tender from the slipway adjacent to the Maltsters Arms.
  • Length of waiting lists: These moorings generally have a short waiting list, but with the small number of moorings the length of time may vary considerably, depending on whether existing berth holders give up their moorings.
Bow Creek Mud trot moorings. Max 9.7m LOA. These moorings dry out on every tide
Sorry, there are no moorings in Bow Creek suitable for your vessel length / draught / ability to dry out. We have larger berths available in Kingswear, Stoke Gabriel and Dittisham

Totnes Moorings

  • Mooring Options We have a few mud trot moorings available in the Mill Tail, on the west side of Vire Island in Totnes.  Other moorings are provided by Totnes Boating Association. 
  • Accessing your mooring: We do not have any tender berths available, but Totnes Boating Association may have availability, or you can launch your tender from the slipway in Totnes.
  • Length of waiting lists: These moorings generally have a short waiting list, but with the small number of moorings the length of time may vary considerably, depending on whether existing berth holders give up their moorings.
Totnes Mill Tail trot moorings. Max 8m LOA. These moorings are on the west side of Vire Island, and dry out on every tide
Sorry, there are no moorings in Totnes suitable for your vessel length / draught / ability to dry out. We have larger berths available in other locations

Priority on waiting list

Boats that are not fitted or provided with any kind of internal combustion engine / generator / auxiliary engine (i.e. electric boats, hydrogen boats etc) have a waiting list priority. Does this apply to you?
Our walk-ashore moorings have a waiting list priority for local people who live within walking distance (2000m) of the berth. Note that this only applies to your main residence, not to a second home. If you do not live in walking distance of this mooring, then you are still welcome to apply for the waiting list, but you will be on the waiting list around 2 years longer than a local person. If your circumstances change, you must let us know, or you risk losing your place on the waiting list.
Your priority on the waiting list will take the effect of adjusting your date of joining the list - by up to 2 years before today's date. be Please note that we will check you / your boat meet these requirements when assigning your mooring. Please inform us if your circumstances change. You may forfeit your place on the waiting list if you apply for an inappropriate priority.

Tender Details

Note- our tender berths are suitable for a maximum size of 4.3 x 2m

On receipt of your application form, Dart Harbour will review your application. If it is correct then we will issue you an invoice for a refundable deposit for your boat + a non-refundable registration fee for each list you wanted to join. By paying this invoice you are confirming that the details you have given here are accurate. If any details change, please let us know. This waiting list application and any berths assigned are subject to our standard terms and conditions which are attached to your invoice. Your waiting list details and positions can be viewed on your Dart Harbour account portal.
